Mexborough to Swinton Family Walk & Social

Posted 15/8/2016

Starting from Dearne Valley Leisure Centre, a party of twenty adults and four children completed this steady walk along the canal towpath at Mexborough to Swinton in rather glorious summer sunshine.

Upon arriving in Swinton we had pre booked a Sunday lunch at Lane Emporium. Where for a very reasonable £5 we were treated to a tasty, hearty lunch. Some of our party with larger appetites even tackled a mouth watering desert afterwards.

Our return journey of this four miler was simply a reverse of the outward leg, which was not a problem as there is plenty to see along this stretch of the canal from the elaborate back gardens to the houses on Church Street to the industrial heritage and the wildlife & traffic on the canal. If you have not walked the towpath a pleasant surprise lays in store for you.

Well done to everyone who came along for this one and made the social a success, once again a good shout from Amanda Bennett for Sunday lunch at the Lane Emporium.

Finally, welcome to Graham, Wendy Allott's friend who walked with us for the first time and congratulations to the following people for the milestones which they achieved today: Nick Powell (800 miles), Gary Marshall & Amanda Bennett (400 miles) and David Richardson who has clocked up 50 miles YTD in just six weeks !!!
