Littleborough to Todmorden Walk - August 13th

Posted 15/8/2016

A small part of six of DVWG's finest tackled this walk from Littleborough over to Todrmorden.

After getting off to a bad start miss-interpreting the route and setting off in the wrong direction, poor way marking hampered our ascent from Littleborough to pick up the Rochdale Way and Pennine Bridleway.

After getting on track and a well deserved (late) lunch we made our final ascent to the Pennine Way walking up an old Roman Road ascending Blackstone Edge Pasture, we were rewarded for our efforts with some excellent views of Pennine Lancashire and Manchester in the distance.

Better was to come, after this ascent our walk along the Pennine Way past several reservoirs and Light Hazzles Edge gave us some great 360 degree views, we then descended towards Todmorden following the Todmorden Centenary Way.

Selecting footpaths to descend the moors once again resulted in some tricky navigation and having to re-trace our steps due to poor way marking, nevertheless our party stuck to the task and completed a steep descent to Todmorden for a well deserved beer before catching our train back to Littleborough to commence our journey home.

The total mileage for this walk was considerably extended at 11.3 miles with 1240 feet of ascent and some tired limbs were reported at the end of the walk. The walk was however rewarding with some amazing views.

Well done to everyone who completed this walk.
