Elsecar and Wentworth Family Walk - August 29th

Posted 6/9/2015

It was a warm balmy bank holiday weekend and, as we pulled in to the Elsecar Heritage centre car park, it was chocabloc with cars with hardly any spaces left.  We thought this was a fantastic turn out for Amanda’s first walk as leader!

When it came to it there were only 5 adults and 3 children - seems all the cars were there to attend a mind, body and spirit weekend event at the centre but never the less it was an enthusiastic walk with lots of foraging for fresh ripe blackberries - a new taste experience for a few of our group.

We meandered through the fields taking in the lovely views of Wentworth in the distance, Once we had entered the village we decided on having an unscheduled refreshment break so we sought sanctuary at the much welcome hostelry of the George and Dragon We were served by George but there was no sign of the dragon, she must have been upstairs!!!!

The walk continued and in doing so we passed the Elsecar reservoir up to the park where one or two of the group had a sneaky play on the equipment.

We all arrived back safe and well and headed in to the centre and discovered a tea room called the Pantry for a well-deserved cuppa and a slice of cake, we thoroughly recommend the Pantry, especially the home made cakes as someone even went back for second helpings it was that good.
