Bolsover & Sutton Scarsdale Hall Walk

Posted 10/12/2017

A rather cold and somewhat snowy affair for our walk from Bolsover Castle over to Sutton Scarsdale Hall yesterday.

After a steep decent in icy conditions from Bolsover we circumnavigated Carr Vale Reservoir and the remains of Lodge Farm to cross the M1 ascending to Sutton Scarsdale Hall.

As we were taking a lunch stop outside the hall looking at the early effects of the fine restoration work being carried out by English Heritage, we were invited into the adjacent church for a... very welcome hot drink.

After our drinks we commenced our trip back to Bolsover via the edge of Duckmanton, crossing through the New Bolsover model village before a final steep incline took us up to Bolsover Castle and a well deserved beer in the Wetherspoons pub adjacent to the castle.

Thanks to the 11 people who tackled this lovely 8.10 miles walk in cold, icy conditions, this is definitely one to try again in summer.
