Lotherton Walk - November 12th

Posted 12/11/2017

A large turnout of 25 adults and 5 children for today’s walk in the cold winter sun which had a changed starting point to the Blands Arms in Micklefield and ended up being shortened slightly to 6.62 miles.

We left Micklefield passing the village playing fields and made our way along Pit Lane to the main A63 which we followed as far as Peckfield Plantation. There are two routes marked across the plantation which, unfortunately, it looks as if our route took the far less walked one as the path petered out and we were forced to battle our way through brambles before reaching an obvious path again and skirting Micklefield Plantation to cross the A1(M).

Our route then took us through the woods of Castle Hills and followed Highfield Lane to cross the railway line at Newthorpe and then made our way towards Hartly Wood, pausing at Newthorpe Barrack for a lunch break.

Another disappearing path in Hartly Wood forced us to divert back towards Micklefield and we then took the decision to return directly to the Blands Arms rather than find an alternative way to rejoin our planned route given the number of people, especially children, on the walk and the lack of available daylight.

Well done to everyone who completed this walk, especially Liz Davis who clocked up 100 miles season to date on this walk.

Finally a big hello to Emma Labedzki and Tracy Davis who walked with DVWG for the first time today.
