High Bradfield Family Walk - 8th October

Posted 8/10/2017

Despite this walk largely consisting of a circuit of Agden reservoir, some boggy and some steeply hilly sections made for a surprisingly strenuous jaunt. Our party of eleven adults and three juniors departed the pub, skirting the beautiful church in High Bradfield before descending to a play park (and inevitable short break) at the bottom of Windy Bank. We then had a gentle ascent to Agden reservoir, taking the permissive path round for half a circuit, before ascending the steep and craggy Agden Side, emerging on a flat ridge along the top with spectacular views across the valley.

Crossing a couple of local roads, we descended to skirt Rocher Wood, continuing gently down to cross a brook at a picturesque waterfall, before tackling the final steep ascent which opened out into the extensive churchyard. Donations were collected over well-earned refreshments at Old Horns Inn, before going our separate ways.

Thanks and well done to all who attended and especially to Jack and Julie, both of whom turned their ankles en-route but ploughed on stoically to complete the walk. It was also a pleasure to welcome a new face in Helen, who is long acquainted with the group through friends in the local walking community, but who attended her first outing with us today.
