Grindleford to Sheffield Ale Trail - September 16th

Posted 17/9/2017

A great walk yesterday, covering 11.3 miles as we walked from Grindleford Station to Sheffield, punctuated with some sampling of local ales.

After a belated start after Emma Powell's delayed train forced her to miss her planned connection to Grindleford, we commenced with a tough ascent to Padley Gorge and on to our first pub stop The Fox House after emerging from the Longshaw Estate.

After our first refreshment, we walked the byway known locally as Houndkirk Road from end to end emerging at the Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow, more refreshment.

From here we set off on field paths, heading for Nether Edge following the River Sheaf to Sheaf Dams and to the Rising Sun at Nether Edge, we could have had an entire beer festival there.

From here it was a walk through the lovely, busy Endcliffe Park in autumn sunshine to Ecclesall Road and our next pub stop The Porter then walking through the crowded city to our final stop at the Rutland Hotel.

Well done to the 14 people who enjoyed this long social walk, it was certainly something different, hic !!
