Holme Valley Reservoirs Walk - February 11th

Posted 11/2/2017

A wintry affair today for a hardy bunch of hardy walkers from DVWG.

Starting from Digley Reservoir we walked through sleet and then snowfall as we gained height as we walked out to Greaves Head, and onto Stopes Moor before walking into the Summer Wine village of Holme via the track known locally as Issues Road.from here we descended to Brownhill & Ramsden Reservoirs, which were quite stunning before ascending a slippy & challenging Crow Hill.

As we descended a missed footpath then a missed street turning diverted us from the village of Holmbridge to the adjoining village of Hinchliffe Mill making the end to our walk a little hilly and challenging as the temperature started dropping in fading daylight.

A beer in The Bridge Inn in Holmbridge was a suitable reward for our party of eight who toughed out the weather for this 9 miler, which was made more challenging by the conditions. Well done to all.

A big well done to Roma Rollett and Charlotte Beech completing their first longer Saturday walk, it was also great to see Sarah Jones and Mark Cockburn walking with DVWG again today and hilarious to see Sarah falling on her backside, finally a big well done to Karen Etches who clocked up 100 miles season to date on this walk too.
