Peak Forest & Sparrowpit Walk - January 22nd

Posted 22/1/2017

An early start for an eventful walk today around the upper regions of the dark peak. Starting from the village of Peak Forest there were a number of tricky stile crossings en route. Our party walked on paths and bridleways over to Sparrowpit.

There was intermittent spells of sleet throughout the day, a standing lunch stop was called in a field outside the hamlet of Bagshaw. Our eating was however abruptly curtailed due to the presence of bulls charging towards us. To be fair it was quite amazing to see how agile our party were when in mortal danger, however ten people trying to cross a stile at the same time was somewhat counter productive.

After some re-routing our party continued towards Dove Holes encountering one of the trickiest stream crossings ever encountered by DVWG across a dilapidated bridge.

Our walk returned to Peak Forest via paths crossing Barmoor.

There were ten tired walkers at the end of this cold, sleety upland early season 8.6 miles wander, a well deserved pint in the Devonshire Arms at Peak Forest was a fitting reward.

Finally well done to Emma Powell who clocked up her 100 miles season to date on this walk.
