Ravenfield & Firsby Reservoir Walk - November 5th

Posted 6/11/2016

Twenty of DVWG’s finest attended this local walk which followed paths from Ravenfield out through Silverwood. To Firsby Reservoir.  It’s fair to say that Silverwood looked stunning in the autumn sunlight and was an undiscovered gem.

We continued along to Firsby Reservoir and had a short refreshment break with some of Andrea Turner’s delicious Parkin before continuing on from the reservoir, crossing fields. The paths were poorly marked and we went off track.

After finding our bearings again we walked across Micklebring Gorse and over the M18 to reach Micklebring village and a refreshment and lunch stop outside The Plough.

It’s fair to say that Micklebring village is lovely with our group wowing at each house as we passed through the village en-route to Foredoles Farm and Foredoles Head trig point.

After going to the trig point and the customary group photo, we walked back to Ravenfield along the very busy Braithwell Road, which was not an ideal end to the walk, but necessary to complete our circuit.

All in all it was a lovely local walk in mid-autumn, completing a 7.5 miles circuit of the area in pretty cold and blustery conditions. Well done to all who attended this one.

Our final refreshment stop was a well-earned beer at The Cavalier in Ravenfield before our journey home.
