Padley Gorge Walk - October 22nd

Posted 22/10/2016

Today saw a great walk from Longshaw Lodge which afforded some stunning  views of the surrounding area for Dearne Valley Walking Group’s party of 14 adults and 1 child from.

After leaving Longshaw Lodge via the edge of Granby Wood we crossed Burbage Brook before descending down Padley Gorge to Padley where a slight diversion to Grindleford Station café was made for early light refreshments.

We returned to the planned route and made a gradual ascent through Oxhay Wood before negotiating the busy Hathersage road and circumnavigating Whim Plantation where lunch was taken. A steep climb then followed before a spectacular walk along Millstone Edge with some great views to the west.

Our path then descended to Surprise View car park before again crossing the Hathersage road and descending back to Burbage Brook which we then followed upstream. We then made our second diversion of the day – this time to the Fox House pub – and then returned to Longshaw Lodge to complete our 7 mile walk.

Congratulations to David Richardson who completed his 100 miles YTD today, the first this season.
